Je viens d'apprendre qu'une deuxième personne a trouvé la mort et trois personnes ont été blessées dans le quartier St Jacques (ou peut-être le quartier St Mathieu, peu importe, ils sont limitrophes) à Perpignan. Les sirènes des voitures de police ont retenti au cours de la soirée. Cela me désole mais cela ne m'étonne pas non plus. La tension depuis la mort tragique de Mohammed Bey-Bachir, dimanche dernier est palpable et une étincelle pouvait faire exploser la poudrière.
J'adore ce quartier. J'y travaille, j'y fais mes courses et j'aime bien flâner dans les ruelles et causer avec les habitants : j'en connais pas mal vu que leurs enfants (et souvent leurs parents!) ont été scolarisés au collège où j'exerce mon métier à deux pas de la Place Cassanyes. Cela va être difficile dorénavant, la fragile cohabitation entre la communauté maghrébine et la communauté tzigane va certainement être mise à l'épreuve pendant longtemps.
J'espère que le quartier va rapidement trouver le calme et je n'ai qu'un souhait: que la violence cesse et que les communautés entament un processus de reconstruction. C'est encore tôt pour cela, je sais, mais ne perdons plus de vies humaines parce qu'on est en colère, ou parce qu'on a peur. Il n'y a qu'une justice, c'est celle de la République. Celle de la rue n'apportera que tristesse et souffrance des deux côtés.

Then you could certainly do worse than consult the relevant Wikipedia page for a more detailed overview. A perusal of B.L. Rayner's online text A Life of Thomas Jefferson, published eight years after his death charts, well, Jefferson's life and gives a contemporary view of events such as the Louisiana Purchase.

Now that you know a bit more about Jefferson, you will want to have a look at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. With regard to the Agrégation and CAPES, you will be pleased to find a section entitled Jefferson's West : Thomas Jefferson and the Clark Expedition at Monticello.
You must of course consult Jefferson's secret message sent to Congress on January 18, 1803, requesting $2,500 "for the purpose of extending the external commerce of the U.S." marking the official beginning of the Lewis and Clark expedition which is discussed at the PBS Living History site. The first section asks Why did Jefferson want the West? There are a further 8 sections which discuss the expedition, its actors and historical significance.

The French government had abolished yesterday's "Lundi de Pentecôte" (Whitsun Monday). However, in the true French spirit of civil disobedience, hardly any pupils came into school. Cue an improvised barbecue at midday: spicy merguez, chops, home-made taboulé and salad, all washed down with chilled sweet Muscat de Rivesaltes and a selection of red Côtes du Roussillon. Quality!
