Moments of Pure Joy!

Ex-soccer star Stan Collymore is to romp in a car with Sharon Stone after landing a part in Basic Instinct 2.

But the former footballer does not have a very big part - he is killed off in the first 30 seconds.

So we're chatting about the ex-Villa player's forthcoming role and sniggering about his small part when one of the lads says:

[So] he is killed off in the first thirty seconds...

It's going to be very much like the first film then, you had a brief glimpse of a c**t in that one too.

The Great Dictator

On Heroes and Villains today, I read that the chairman of an English football club had been overheard explaining how he had taught Charlie Chaplin how to fish. The photo below may shed some light on this mystery.

Now, surely nobody is thinking that Herbert Douglas Ellis could have been the inspiration for The Great Dictator (or maybe it was the other way round!)? On the other hand, I don't think Chaplin was thinking of the "inventor" of the bicycle kick when he shot Modern Times!

Cruising through

A Brummie blog which deserves a mention: anyone who cannot dissociate the adjective mighty from the proper noun Aston Villa is OK in my book.

Mr Francisco writes a lot about what he has been drinking whilst out and about (and fair play to him) but he also expresses his obvious special love for Villa, which involves joy but mostly suffering...

It felt a bit weird going to the footy at lunch time on a Sunday and the atmosphere at the ground was a touch subdued for what historically has been a big match for Villa. West Brom are battling to beat relegation, and they put up a good fight. Half time saw us going in one-nil up, having not taken all our chances, but in the second half we hardly turned up, and only just managed to hold on, until the 90th minute when the Baggies equalised. The away following duly went crazy with joy, while all around me the language directed at Villas players and management staff was colourful, liberal and vociferous.

I was obviously disappointed, but it does bring a wry smile to my face hearing the abuse thrown at the team. There's something about the Brummie footy fans sense of humour, both in victory and defeat, that makes me feel warm and proud to be amongst their number.

Fair enough mate but I would have said Villa fans. You can't go associating us with Small Heath, it's just not cricket!

Retouched photos

Image is everything it appears.

Have a gander at these examples of image manipulation and weep. People often say that "stars" or "celebrities" look different, smaller, older etc. in real life. This is a reminder of how illusions can be created and maintained. Pretty distasteful really when you think about it...

Ellis and O'Leary play Chinese Whispers

David O'Leary has been getting excited at news that Aston Villa will be making substantial funds available this summer. Now, whilst Doug Ellis has been quoted as saying that there would be a measly £4 million on the table, the press are hinting at a bumper £20 million for four or five "quality" players. As ever, it is wise to say ITSOTP, especially as we know better:-

So that's where the twenty million pound figure came from. It all makes sense now!
