Netiquette: Guidelines for Posting Messages on AgreGang

Please do your best to adhere to the following guidelines:-

  1. Do not write in chat room "TextSpeak" or omit capital letters where they are required.
  2. Sign all messages with your name, surname, town and e-mail address. Keep signatures to a maximum of four lines if possible.
  3. Do make sure that your "subject line" is clear and relevant to the content of your message (i.e. do not reply to mail a headed "Mencken on Balti cooking" if you are asking why Puck gave his name to the projectile used in ice-hockey.Change the subject line in your e-mail!).
  4. Please keep discussions to the general subject of concours, their preparation and useful sources of information. A touch of humour is always welcome, as is the occasional foray into the real world but totally off-topic mails, notably chain letters, virus warnings and the like are not.
  5. Do not publish mails received in private or from other groups with out the express permission of the author. (a short quote is sometimes acceptable [references, dates etc.] when the correspondence is of a non-personal nature).
  6. When replying to a message do not include the original message in its entirety.This will be frowned upon with Denis Healey eyebrows. However, a short extract to give context is fine.
  7. If a member offers documents or further information that is of interest to you alone, do not send a message to the list, reply directly to the person concerned at his or her personal e-mail address.
  8. A mail to the list should always contain content of use to all or most members. If you wish to thank someone or just say "me too" or "very interesting", "I agree...er...that's it!" then write to the person concerned not the group.
  9. Do respect copyright and other laws pertaining to privacy, libel, racial harmony and so on.
  10. Do not make (or respond to) personal attacks. If you feel have a grievance contact the person(s) concerned and/or the moderator.
  11. The moderator will point out any persistent no-nos (Did I mention signing with your e-mail address and not sending the whole original message back with your post?) and ask you very nicely to be a good "lister" or to re-read this page. If he does, please don't get the hump, it's all in the interest of a lean, mean, clean and efficient group.
  12. The moderator reserves the right to exclude [after an initial warning] any member who fails to comply reasonably with the above Charter but this is extremely rare as we are a jolly old bunch. Oh yes, did I mention the ten rules for posting messages?

Technical note:

  • AgreGang is a "text-only" group. HTML formatting (text hyperlinks excepted) is removed automagically.
  • However, if you need to emphasize anything in your text, please don't use ALL CAPS. You can do the following with underscores, slashes and hyphens:
    • _underline a sentence_ *make it bold* or /use italics/
  • Attachments cannot be sent to the group but there is an Archive at the Group Website where you can upload relevant files.
