The Great Dictator

On Heroes and Villains today, I read that the chairman of an English football club had been overheard explaining how he had taught Charlie Chaplin how to fish. The photo below may shed some light on this mystery.

Now, surely nobody is thinking that Herbert Douglas Ellis could have been the inspiration for The Great Dictator (or maybe it was the other way round!)? On the other hand, I don't think Chaplin was thinking of the "inventor" of the bicycle kick when he shot Modern Times!
