Cruising through
A Brummie blog which deserves a mention: anyone who cannot dissociate the adjective mighty from the proper noun Aston Villa is OK in my book.
Mr Francisco writes a lot about what he has been drinking whilst out and about (and fair play to him) but he also expresses his obvious special love for Villa, which involves joy but mostly suffering...
It felt a bit weird going to the footy at lunch time on a Sunday and the atmosphere at the ground was a touch subdued for what historically has been a big match for Villa. West Brom are battling to beat relegation, and they put up a good fight. Half time saw us going in one-nil up, having not taken all our chances, but in the second half we hardly turned up, and only just managed to hold on, until the 90th minute when the Baggies equalised. The away following duly went crazy with joy, while all around me the language directed at Villas players and management staff was colourful, liberal and vociferous.
I was obviously disappointed, but it does bring a wry smile to my face hearing the abuse thrown at the team. There's something about the Brummie footy fans sense of humour, both in victory and defeat, that makes me feel warm and proud to be amongst their number.
Fair enough mate but I would have said Villa fans. You can't go associating us with Small Heath, it's just not cricket!
